note:  Anyone wanting to travel with a real tripod, as
opposed to a mini-pod or beanbag, might find this site

I think it's a little outdated, but has some useful
information for a starting point. I've used an earlier
version of this:

with great success. It fits into a suitcase more
readily than anything else I've seen.
