I pack my tripod strapping it down to the internal central column of my bag (I took out the internal lining in order to expose it). That way I avoid it moving during transit. Also, be aware that you might encounter limitations to use a tripod in Paris. It is forbidden in many museums and some report that also in some outdoor gardens.
