With ETTL there is a disadvantage: before the picture is taken, a
pre-flash is fired to determine the correct exposure.
After the curtain is fully open, the flash is fired "for real". If you
use 2nd curtain sync with a relatively long exposure time, there will be
a relatively long time between both flashes. This might cause your
subject to react to the preflash before the "real" flash, just like you
often see with red-eye-reduction based on a preflash.
