Dear Malcom I have the same Sigma lens and sometimes it does not like to work, I've barely used it and it feels like I've taken it to a battle, maybe is part of the savings of buying it ;)

Only the slightest (external) mark on the stainless steel lens mout, but it needed a heart transplant to get it working again. Now the focus motor has failed again - jammed, and this time I can't remember even touching it!
