Yes, the Quantum Turbo Compact or 2x2 are recommended for faster flash 
recycling. It's virtually instaneous with TTL flash in most instances. These 
can also provide power for your digital camera (especially if you have a 1D or 
1Ds). For some reason, I only get 150 shots per battery on a 1Ds. I suspect 
that the image-stabilized lenses may have something to do with this as well.

What size portable softbox do you need? The largest softbox that's recommended 
for on-camera use is the Westcott Micro Apollo. The inflatable Photoflexes 
produce an excessively blue color balance. The Gary Fong Lightsphere 
Photojournalist (the clear vinyl one) is also worth a look. The majority of the 
pictures on my site (www.fobpro.com) were taken with a Westcott Micro Apollo 
attached to a 550EX.
