I've made several 20x30 prints shot with a 1D Mark II, including one with a 
some 
cropping.  Comparing them side by side to prints of similar subjects made from 
Velvia I 
can see no real difference.  I like large prints, and I've been very happy with 
it.  Even 
better is the fact that the digitals were typically shot at 200-400 ISO!

The biggest problem I've faced is finding a printing service that can do a good 
job with 
large digitals without bankrupting me (the camera and L glass already did that!)

These prints had little post-processing other than a touch of tweaking of 
levels and 
sharpening.  Then I uploaded them to smugmug and ordered prints from them.  
I've been 
very happy with prints from smugmug.  There was no "noise reduction" or 
"up-resing".
