Craig, I use DownloaderPro from BreezeSystems (the guys from the BreezeBrowser) and it really helps managing the files. I use a folder system, with meaningful names for the folder, but keeping filenames as taken by the camera (CRW_xxxx.CRW). The Downloader will breakup the annoying canonXXX/ folders on the card and put all images on the specified folder. It saves me a lot of time. It's not flawless of course, as sometimes I leave images from another event in the card and then they get into the wrong named folder.
