I really would try the image rescue 2. It comes with Lexar Cards and he may
be able to down load it from their site.

In the mean time I found out that's a 2 GB Lexar card, the camera is a
Canon 1Ds and 178 photos are bad. When he took the pictures he could see
them on the LCD, now that will no longer work.
