I have had exactly the same problem with exactly the same macro setup -
sudden changes in exposure in certain unchanging, usually lower -
light , conditions. I sent the camera off for checking to a service
centre where they could find nothing wrong but re - calibrated it
anyway. The same then happened again. I then sent RAW exposure samples
to Canon for analysis and they have suggested that I use another
metering mode such as spot metering. The camera performs flawlessly
apart from this so it may be a situation where evaluative metering is
not the best choice.
