I think you should call AND write to the head of Canon USA AND Canon
Japan. There is an implied warranty that the case supplied with an item
should be sufficient to support the item. You might be able to get the
lens checked out and repaired with Canon picking up the tab.
You will have to contact people at the highest level to make this happen.
I wouldn't use any Canon case again.
