Hi

I was just reading up on why I can't use my 430EZ with my 20D, and found
something confusing about E-TTL instead.

from the page http://photonotes.org/articles/eos-flash/index2.html#recompose on
EOS cameras and flash

it says:

If you’re in the habit of using the old “focus, lock AE and recompose image”
technique, be sure not do this when taking flash photos

I'm a little confused by this, as when using flash in manual mode, its
primarily the distance that is used for GN calculations. Assuming youre
focusing on the main subject, then this distance information has always given
me the basis for what I wanted in exposure.

Measuring reflectance is problematic anyway, which is of course the reason for
the existence of incident flash meters.
