Just bought a 580EX. Nice flash. But there's some slightly
confusing terminology in the 30D manual. It states (p.169):
"If the external, EOS-dedicated Speedlite's [AF-Assist beam] Custom
Function is set to [Disabled], the Speedlite will not emit the
AF-assist beam even if the C.Fn-05-0/2 is set"
But in the 580EX manual, (p.28) the listing for C.Fn-12 says
"AF-assist beam OFF : 0 - Disabled, 1 - Enabled"
This is a double negative, right? Off-Disabled means On. So if I
want the AF-assist to work on the 580EX, [Disabled] *should* be set,
taking the wording literally.
I think that's right, just want to run it by some others.
And, if I want to use the 580EX *strictly* as an AF-assist, the
following settings should apply:
580EX - C.Fn-12 = 0
30D C.Fn.5 = 2
AND
C.Fn-7 = 1 (flash does not fire)
Right?
