Hi David:

I have one about the same age and so far it's still working fine. I just tried it out last Sunday on my 20D. The IS and focus are fine. It also works fine with 3, 1n, 20D and even my old 620. One thing I do realize with this lens is that it drain the battery (esp. on my film cameras) faster than other lenses. As other members said, get the repair fix it properly. Typically, Canon repair centers are pretty good (at least the ones I tried).

Btw, so far, none of my lenses need to be sent back for repair. (even my old 200 f2.8 L).

Good luck,

Gary

Subject: EOS Canon 28-135 USM IS problem

Hi,

I bought a Canon 28-135 USM about 7 years ago and I have a lot of trouble with it. I returned the lens 6 times for the same reason:

- The lens lost the communication with the body.
- The stabiliser is shaking, making my images blurred.
- Sometimes, the lens stop to work completely.

Each time the lens is ok when it is coming back from Canon, but after 6 to 12 month of use, the same problem emerge. And, the lens was used on Elan II for 6 years, and now it is used on Digital Rebel XT. I am using a lot of Canon lens and I have this problem only with 28-135.

Now, the problem seem to reappear and I dont know what to do.

- Is this problem can be caused by dust inside the lens? (because this lens seem to "pump" dust inside)
- Is someone have the same problem with this lens?
- There is a long term fix for this problem?

Thanks!

David
