With the lens pointing down, does the camera body get support each side of the lens ? If yes: Then the lens weight being the same, it is just a matter of deciding which is better for the camera-lens mount interface: the lens weight "pulling" on it or the lens "pushing" on it ? If no: Then definitely the lens down position is putting much more weight on the lens and the lens-camera interface than the lens up (lens down = Camera + lens body + Batteries + films etc. resting on the lens; lens up = only the lens weight resting on the body) FWIW, in my experience so far, the Elan 7E mount seems to be pretty sturdy to withstand a "hanging" lightweight lens (ie 70-200F4). Whether the lens optics and motor suffer any due to gravitational "pull/push" differences may be another question altogether. - Harman __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
