What drawbacks? :) I liked the ECF on my old 7E but never got it to work well enough to rely it on with my 3 so I didn't miss it at all when I got my first 1D.
I don't know what it is about ECF, but every time someone on this list says they like it or miss it, someone else jumps in to say they don't. To each his own, but I am still hoping Canon will come out with ECF in the DSLRs soon.
