> So... has anyone on the list had any experience buying a lens > refurbished by Canon, and any experience -- good or bad -- to share?
Never bought a second hand lens refurbished from Canon, never seen any here in Canada. Generally you should get a good price reduction but sometimes at the expense of a shorter warranty, and sometimes it's overall cheaper to buy an extended warranty from a 3rd party warranty firm to cover the duration you are comfortable with and still pay less overall. Some credit cards offer automatic warranty extension, mine "doubles the warranty up to an additional one year", so you get a 6 month extension if the OEM warranty was 6 months, but you only get one year extension even if the OEM warranty is 2 years. Note however that some credit card does not cover "refurbished" items under this warranty, I've lucked out once getting the battery of a refurbished laptop replaced ($$$), yet was refused later when the LCD screen started acting up.
