If everyone top-posted, the reply would be right there, at the top. If I'd been following the thread, I'd only need to read the last top-post to know what I was replying to. If you bottom-post, I would have to scroll all the way down to read the last reply. I was a staunch bottom-poster for probably 15 years, and probably a little over a decade ago, it seemed to me it was outdated and top-posting seemed a much better way to communicate. On the other hand, it depends on the topic, where neither really works...in a reply that is responded to point by point, where you intermix what you are replying to with your reply.
