Rich, 1k budget easily accommodates Canon G7 plus 3 spare batteries plus extended warranty (you will get the dust/sand in the barrel zoom sooner or later). No RAW, very clean JPEGs from that camera. Disliked the grip and the power button, liked the pictures and the controls are top notch.
Or.. Pentax 1xxD series. Quite compact, kit zoom of excellent optical quality, and one model had AA batteries as its power source. On extra warranties. Most of us don't need those. If you do stay away from the ones that simply extend the Mfg Limited Warranty up to 5 years, those are the most useless ones. They are very attractively priced though. Get the one that covers abuse, e.g. drop in the water, beer, ocean, runover by Land Rover, etc. The one from Ritz is like that, covers everything but loss/theft and fire. The reason I brought it up is that sand (beach or desert) is one of the top 3 reasons for cams to get into repair. * **** ******* *********************************************************** * For list instructions, including unsubscribe, see: * http://www.a1.nl/phomepag/markerink/eos_list.htm ***********************************************************
