I recommend one canvas for all segments, and lay them out in 2D space as you wish for overlays. See 5-channel.CAVE in revision 5610.
I like how the configuration looks without compounds.
For anaglyphic stereo I see that it works just by adding mode STEREO in the view. If there is quad buffer support, would it also be chosen automatically?
