One problem I've noticed with a fuel dip stick is the fact
that the dihedrial of the wings will leave the area under the fuel caps dry when
there is still quite a bit of usable fuel left in the wing tanks.
I'd be interested if someone makes a measurement my adding
fuel a gallon at a time to see just how much fuel is indeed left.
