----[Please read http://ercoupers.com/disclaimer.htm before following any advice in this forum.]----Here in the east, my wife, Mary Alice, and I were at Kitty Hawk for the big celebration. Driving rain and little wind, but it was a treat to be there with thousands of like-minded folks. Nobody complained (that I could hear) and nobody left early. We just sat there in the rain, watching people setting up the track on a field where the sea gulls were grounded. We heard from the President, but we all stayed where we were and waited. 10:35 came and went and we still stayed in place.
When they finally gave it a whirl at 12-something PM, everybody cheered a valiant effort and continued to enjoy the day..realizing, of course, that this is exactly the kind of thing the Wright Brothers dealt with repeatedly and that the airplane behaved exactly as the original behaved on many occasions...rolled down the track and right off the end.
A great time was had by all. Wish you could have been there.
