You bring up an excellent point in that there are really very few tricyle
gear sport pilot planes available right now. Since you are going to fly
Sport Pilot and have a coupe, there is no difference for you now. Should you
decide to change to a 3 axis plane in the future, there will be more
available by then to find to train in. It will only take you a few hours to
transition. But that brings up a question I am not sure has been answered.
On a sport pilot ticket, will they put the restriction there? Seems like
they would, but I've not seen it answered for sport pilot.

Scott,
For 40 years or so the FAA gave the same license to those who took the
test
in a two-control Ercoupe as to those who used a three-control airplane
for
the test.
Sometime, maybe a decade or so ago, they went back to issuing restricted
licenses when the test was taken in a two-control aircraft.
I'd urge you to transition to a 3-control plane 5-8 hours before you
anticipate taking the test then doing the test in the 3-control aircraft
for
the unlimited license.

Subject: [COUPERS-FLYIN] Flight test in Ercoupe
----[Please read http://ercoupers.com/disclaimer.htm before following any
advice in this forum.]----
Hello -
Has anyone taken their FAA pilot flight test in an Ercoupe and did the
tester/FAA wave the maneuvers that the Ercoupe isn't capable
of...such as slip?
I suspect there will be restrictions because there aren't any rudder
pedals,
but other than that, what should I expect?
Thanks,
Scott
