Your suggestion is probably the most relevant and intelligent suggestion that I have heard in a long time.
Especialy now that you Americans have the Sport Catagory.
We poor vastly over regulated Canadians might even be able to fly a lighter version [1200 lb max] because it would fit into the Basic Ultralight Catagory up here, the only area that is growing in numbers.

Because of the way flying light aircraft is perceived here in Canada by the "All-mighty Powers" and their tons of Regulations, it won't be long before American Pilots will be needed up here to handle all branches of Aviation.  Very sad situation here.

Stop your whining!!!!!!! Your very enlightened country will grant you permission to maintain your own aircraft (at least in the case of the likes of an Ercoupe), or so I'm told. I seem to be perceived by mechanics as nothing more than a wallet to bite and it has made aviation horribly expensive - they've cost me more than the plane did, or pretty near. I had heard that your govt. was going to announce reciprocity with the U.S. on Sport Pilot at Oshkosh last July - I guess not. I heard they (FAA) came up with 1360# because it related to an international standard - if so, what's with 1200#??

You also get health care - we're self-employed and our health plan costs over $1600 / month. I understand you also have about as many guns as we do, but refrain from shooting each other for the most part. Yes, enjoy your very enlightened country - if it wasn't for the weather and my wife's (benefit-less job) we might be tempted to emigrate north. Has Canada invaded any distant country lately? ...I'll stop now.
