I know that the seasoned "old hands" will find this somewhat obvious,
but I would like to pass on to the less sophisticated members of the
list (like me) a cautionary note. Be sure and order the aircraft
records from the FAA for any aircraft that you are thinking of buying.
I've searching for an LSA 'coupe for some months and recently found what
looked like a nice one. The owner assured me that it was a C model and
even had a bill of sale that showed it as a C. However, when I got the
337s from the FAA, it showed that it had been converted to a D 5 years
ago. When I notified the owner, he was very upset. He indicated that
he had been "lied to" by the person who sold him the airplane. In the
course of our conversation, he explained that what he meant was that the
seller had indicated that he had made the conversion but had not and
would not file the 337! The FAA records turned out to be the best $10 I
have spent lately. Be careful when you buy!
