Hope you don't mind me moving this to the Flying section.

Ed;

In addition to Jerry's fine observations and comments, you make a good point.
With a bigger newsletter, membership becomes more attractive in as much as
folks appreciate the appearance of getting more for their money. Membership
becomes more valuable as it is then sought. When membership is more valuable,
membership increases, indicating to vendors that a larger audience can be
reached by advertising. Advertising dollars start to come in, freeing up more
money for additional benefits and upgrades, volunteers can then be compensated
in some way, generating more volunteers. ;-)

One thing, though. Putting together a newsletter of that size is a monumental
task. I wouldn't, in good conscience, expect a volunteer to tackle such a job.
I strongly feel it's one thing that should have compensation built into the
operating budget (an internet manager is another). Similar to paying your top
salesman the same money that you're making. Without him/her, you're making zip!

It's all about marketing, my friend, but it takes the evil greenback to get
things kicked off and that's for another discussion - maybe!

  I see two realistic avenues:

1.. Be satisfied with the number of members in EOC that you now have, and
the level of service and participation that you presently have, or

2.. Consider a club with a far larger universe of potential members. Maybe
VAA, or a "Classic Aircraft Club" to get beyond the small numbers of Coupe
owners.

There is a third option. Instituting a quality newsletter of 16-20 pages
with lots of work to solicit good content and no other changes, it's possible
to increase the membership by 25%-30% and provide a much better service to
those members. I feel confident of that. We did that 1991-1994.
