I realize I don't know anything and don't confuse me with someone who
does, but other than the joy of flying, is there any incentive
attached?
Can you think of a way to make it novel and maybe more fun? Avgas
is expensive, so maybe everyone is feeling the crunch.

For starters, Al, I knew the people that showed up at the meetings,
and genuinely enjoy seeing them. If someone shows up that I don't
know, then I get the opportunity of a new friend. Besides that, I
like the sound of my own voice... :-)
It remains a question whether it is worth it on $5/gallon AvGas. I
believe it is just like anything else - if you want to do it, it is
worth the expense.
