All, Why not ask for 1450 lbs so the Alons would qualify as well?? The Alon is virtually the same as a 415C as far as performance, flying qualities, etc.
What's the gross weight on a Cessna 150/152?? It is absurd that the most popular little 2 place trainer airplane in the world wouldn't be LS qualified.? Why shouldn't?a Cessna 150/152 be allowed under light sport?? Is it so that Cessna can sell $100,000 made-in-china Skycatchers? I think that the answer is that the weight restriction rule has nothing to do with flying. It has to do with politics and money.? Can you imagine the ruckus that the LSA manufacturers would raise at this point if several thousand additional "old"?airplanes suddenly became light sport qualified? That's not to say that the rule?can't be changed, but I think the battle is a political one, not one of common sense and reasoning. Then there are those who theorize?that light sport was only agreed to by the policy makers because it is?the beginning of the end of the public flying really capable GA airplanes.? Give them 100 mph 2 seaters, and then regulate and price them out of every other type of personal aircraft.? Keep them all out of the airspace, etc, etc.? Gee, you can't afford a $4000 ELT and a $5000 ADS-B set-up?? Well then a light sport aircraft is where you belong, and you can fly it right here, and right here, between sunrise and sunset.?
