Robert, Don't sweat it. The actual written words of the regulation govern. They're going by verbal hearsay.
Light-sport aircraft means an aircraft, other than a helicopter or powered-lift that, since its original certification, has continued to meet the following: Then it goes on to list the criteria. Note that it says "an aircraft"! It does not say "aircraft type." Case closed. Take it to court. Any lawyers disagree?
