I think where we, the people, went wrong is when we allowed politics to become a paid profession.

If politicians still had to earn a living actually doing something worthwhile they would be less inclined to take up residence away from home for extended periods and squabble over who to victimize by taking from the productive and giving to the unproductive. No one's earnings are safe so long as Congress is in session.

The goals and priorities of a society are most evident by who it taxes, how much, and what it does with tax revenue. What tribalism, monarchies, socialism, communism, fascism and the like have in common is that all they do is redivide a fixed pie.

In the history of the world, only capitalism (if we exclude slavery) sufficiently fans the spark of individual productivity that production of a bigger pie has proven sustainable. The engine of our self-interest is harnessed to advance the overall prosperity of our society.

It has been said with regard to the stock market that one can make money as a bull and also as a bear, but no one can do so by being a pig. Our government had better learn the same is true with regard to taxation before it destroys the unique willingness of Americans to work harder and longer to make THEIR life better. ;<)

Well said and I agree. I'd add to your list below:
All amendments to a bill must be about the same subject matter as the original bill Any amendment must be attached no sooner than 5 legislative working days All bills and amendments must include a truthful and complete synopsis of the bills contents (I've given up on making them read the bills).

While we have gotten off the subject of flying, I have been fascinated by the mostly intelligent discussion and expressions from this group. I'm working on a task force in Wichita to get access to healthcare to those left out and have found our focus groups much like this group.  The American people aren't near as stupid as Washington thinks and most physicians practice medicine for their patients (unfortunately we have a few who practice for their own self interests; but they don't get involved in stuff like this!)
