That is good guidance, as said, the good ones go fast. Another bit of fiction from sellers is often empty weight. Most of these oldies have gained a few pounds along with their owners. Several I considered were actually empty weight at 930-940 lbs. Add a coouple of people in the seats, full fuel tanks, and you can see the only thing you can do is taxi around the airport, or leave the fuel behind when you fly! Rudder pedals, wheel pants, aluminum wing coverings, a panel expanded with old heavy instruments, etc etc, they get heavy fast! Another thing I learned when shopping, is check on the price of extras. If you need a panel radio, a transponder with encoder, landing lights, strobes, etc, be sure and check the price if you are figuring on adding them on later. Would you believe if you want wheel pants for instance, they are $2485.00, plus tax, plus shipping, plus painting, and plus installation. It all adds up in a hurry. An independent pre-buy inspection is important as well, and have the inspection serve as a fresh annual while you are doing it. I am an A&P so I did my own. And most of all, feel free to ask questions! This forum and the Ercoupe - Tech forum I am sure qot a gut full of my constant silly questions on a daily basis, but never did anyone complain, on the contrary, I got quick, proper, informative answers every last time. I love these guys and gals!
