On the subject of lubing rod ends----- I brazed two nuts together, one of a diameter to accept the rod end, the second of a diameter to accept a zerk fitting. Screw a zerk fitting into one end, the other onto the rod end and pump some good old AeroShell into it. Drive the little wooden plug into the end of the rod end. Now you're lubed up for another 50 years. When you tighten up the rod end, don't use the bolt that goes through the ball to hold the fitting from turning--this can lead to damaging the heim joint.
