Percy,

If you're in the middle of a field OR on the edge of the field, I'd
suggest
something like Roy Prugh's wheel boxes. He had John Wright, Jr., make him
three boxes for his wheels. Each box is about a foot tall (just low
enough
that the plane can safely roll over it). The front of each box is hinged
so
he can lower it to roll the plane into the three boxes. When raised and
locked, the boxes would require the mouse to jump a foot vertically to get
in and they can't or won't bother. There are drain holes so any liquids
would run out of the box.

These boxes stay at his tie-down spots. (In Roy's case, this is inside
his
hanger but since his hangar is only 15' from the grass, the mice sometimes
find their way into the hangar.)

In the 23 years I had my plane, I had it tied out only one period, for
almost two years. I had to empty and recharge the mouse traps a couple
times a week all summer and we had to replace a couple of wing ribs at the
end of that two-year period. I'm sure glad the center section wasn't
bothered!

I think a couple of hours with some cheap aluminum, bending tool, drill
and
pop rivet gun would be worthwhile insurance.

Good advice, Ed. Unfortunantly, my wife will not allow me
to leash her ferrets up to the plane. So I have to depend on
the airport cat. I'm tied out in the middle of a well-mowed
field, and the local hawks help. Us flyers have to stick
together!

And the cover is a good idea - one of them will run about a
month's hangar rent. Rain will continue to enter through
the sides - runs down between the fairings and the fusel.
