I am in the process of doing an annual on the coupe and find that my nosewheel strut is not working just right.
I have the old single fork nosewheel and it has the original fairing on it
S/N of the coupe is 506
I lift the nose up and the strut extends all the way down just fine but I can quite easily push it up. I removed the plug on the top and the long snakey thing is dry.
When I try to push the strut up with the cap removed it makes a gurgling sound and red fluid splats out and over the windshield.
So I guess I am low on the red stuff. (Low blood pressure).
What is this red stuff?
Transmission fluid?
Transformer oil?
Something mo special?

How easy is it to remove and re-build the strut?
I guess, clean it out and change the seals, grease it up and fill it with red stuff.
Approximate cost of the parts?
Special tools?
Things to watch out for.
Other guys at the airport tell me that if it is not broken off, don't fix it.
My thoughts are that if it is well serviced and maintained it may just last another 50 years.
