The same wheels were used on other aircraft, notably Taylorcraft and Cessna 120/140. At least one of these, the Cessna, used a smaller shaft, 3/4" I believe. It is possible that the wheels were manufactured with a smaller hole, and enlarged for the Ercoupe, or at least manufactured with 2 different ID's.
