Percy::
How is it going, Pal, say hi to Georgia for me.
 To the conversations concerning fuel caps.  The fuel caps on both the Alon and the Ercoupe are located in an area of intense low pressure especially at high angles of attack.
  Long distance trips necessitate the filling of tanks to within a half inch of the top, which results in severe fuel loss for even the tightest of cap closures on take off and climb out.
  My procedure, in these situations is to lower the nose and climb out at 85 to 90 or even higher airspeeds at lower altitudes to prevent this evacuation.
  You must recheck both fuel and oil caps after line crewmen finish fueling your airplane, Lord knows how many cap configurations can result from well intentioned fuelers in their haste to do a good fueling job for you.
 I had a loose fuel cap that cost me about ten gallons of fuel coming out of Minot, ND a few years back. I'll just bet the good citizens of Minot were contemplating burning rainwater in their cars!

 On my 47 415D the right cap (as you sit in the plane) is vented through the top, while the left fuel cap is vented through the front, which I assume forces air into the tank. The right cap vents fuel sometimes after refueling. Do I have them on correctly?

Both my caps have holes in the front, Charlie.  The low air pressure on the top of
the wing can pull fuel our if one fills the tanks too much.  I keep mine about an
inch down.
