My Forney was built with the gear mounted lights.  They are very effective.

I live on an airpark in the desert.  There is a lightly used highway coming into town from El Paso, 60 miles east.  It is straight as a string across the desert floor for 15 miles.  Quite often I fly at dusk.  I will get down on the deck, a couple feet above that hiway when I see a car off in the distance coming into town.  I'll turn on the landing lights which look a lot like a car's headlights from several miles away.  As I get closer, the car will bright me at which time I pull back on the yoke and make a climbing turn to the north and then go dark.  I keep hoping to see a newspaper article about UFO sighting along the hiway but so far nothing.

Well, I have managed to attract the attention of both US Customs and the Border Patrol on several occasions who have followed me home.  Customs flys Citation Jets and have made low approaches on my runway a couple of times while talking to me on 122.9.  Now, they have lights both on the gear and at the wingtips.  That REALLY looks like a 747 inbound.  Coupes sure are fun!

Any body have any thoughts on gear mounted lights as opposed to wing mounted lights, my coupe has no lights and I can go either way.  Just looking for opinions.
