In my travels, I have come across many coupes with the fuel valve on the instrument panel. After always reaching up under the panel to turn off the fuel, I'm wondering where one finds the necessary parts/info to convert the fuel valve to an on-the panel lever, as I've seen.
Any thoughts?

Yo, Brett

If you look in a Univair-published Ercoupe Parts Manual, p. 26, Fig. 19, you can see that the shut-off valve from the fuselage tank to the carburetor, item #36 (which many don't know has a strainer in it which should be cleaned annually) is shown connected to a dash-mounted operating handle (no number identification, as probably unavailable since long before Univair).

This valve handle location was changed effective Ercoupe Serial No. 2624 to the arrangement shown on page 29, item #21; but the valve part number remained the same.  A description of how this part of the fuel system works is in Ercoupe Service Memorandum No. 31, par. 15.

The answer to your specific question would be:  you have to contact someone parting out an aircraft in the earlier serial range (or installing a more modern panel arrangement) and buy their parts.  The plaquard on the instrument panel, however, remained available...see p. 34 and 35, item #17.

WRB
