Title: Re: [COUPERS-TECH] Generator Rating?
----[Please read http://ercoupers.com/disclaimer.htm before following any advice in this forum.]----

Yo, Marty

Delco Generator 1101876, Continental Pt. No. 40435, is a 12 ampere unit.  Cold output is 13 amperes at 15.0 volts at 3650 rpm.  Field current at 12 volts is 1.62-1.69 amperes.  Correct brush spring tension is 25 ounces.

You might want to check brush spring tension and brushes for sticking.  If the commutator is rough, has dirt in the slots, high mica, burned bars or is out of round, it should be turned down in a lathe and the mica undercut.  Burned bars indicate open circuit operation, which must be eliminated or the armature replaced.

Twenty and thirty-five amp Delco generators are available and should be an easy 337 approval (if there is such a thing anymore).  Of course, the regulator must be also changed if either is installed.  It's not rocket science.

An alternator conversion would be a more complex and expensive undertaking, but many have done it.  I'd do a detailed load study before deciding on an alternator with modern radios, etc. drawing minimal amperage.

Hi,

I¹ve been having trouble with my  10 amp generator breaker tripping since I installed my landing lights. I can¹t find the rating on the data plate for the generator but it has the following numbers on it:  1101876  5615.  I¹m going to get a larger breaker, but don¹t want to exceed the rating of the generator.  The only time I¹m having trouble is with the wigwag switching deal flashing the landing lights and with the navigation lights on and I pull the power back.  The voltage drops causing the current to rise and trips the breaker.  Does anyone know what rating a generator with these numbers on it might be?

Thanks,

Marty Duke
