True enough on the numbers. This can be seem in AC 43.13-1B. In practice
you
do not need to be caught up in these numbers. The key is the dash number.
A
-4 is a 1/4 inch and -6 is 3/8. 303 rubber and 666 Teflon hoses are not
intended to be slipped on and attached with clamps. They are to be
assembled
using the correct end fittings. Mil-h-6000 is sized to slip on. If the
manual calls for a 1/4 inch hose or line and all fittings and hoses are -4
and correct for the hose or tube type things will be OK. The tube OD
listed
on the hose would indicate the equivalent rigid tube size. So you could
interchange rigid tubes and rubber hose in some applications, you just
again
use the correct dash number and appropriate fittings.

Hi Kevin,

Glad to oblige. My 2002 Wicks Aircraft Supply Catalog contains tables
(presumably from the spec.) for MIL-H-8794 Aeroquip or Stratoflex hoses
which that the hose a "Tube Size" of 1/4" is .188 I.D. and .516 O.D.,
their
Pt. No. 303-4H. The hose that is actually .25 (1/4") I.D. is indicated as
being for a 5/16" tube is Pt. No. 303-5H. The 3/8" "Tube Size" is
actually
313 I.D. and .672 O.D, Pt. No. 303-6H.

The table for Stratoflex MIL-H-83797 hose similarly indicates that for a
1/4" "Tube Size", the actual hose I.D. is 7/32", and for 3/8" I.D. is
11/32". Interestingly, the data for the MIL-H-27267 Teflon hose with
exterior stainless braid shows a "Tube Size" of 5/16" and an I.D. of 3/16"
for Pt. No. 666-4, and a "Tube Size" of 15/32" and an I.D. of 5/16" for
Pt.
No. 666-6.

For MIL-H-6000 hose no "Tube Size" is shown, hose I.D. 1/4" being
indicated
for Pt. No. MIL-H-6000-1/4 and 3/8" for Pt. No. MIL-H-6000-3/8. They did
not list 303 hose or 306 hose.
