Ed: I apologize for taking so long. NO, I do not think one needs to apply
for and get approval to convert a C to a D model. However, I think it is prudent
to obtain a 337 approval and record the changes with the FAA. That way the
modification will be on file in Oklahoma City, and I doubt that there would be
any heartburn with an insurance company.
If it was me, I would go ahead and modify the
elevator to the later version. I think the Coupe handles so much better
when landing at 50 mph rather than 70.
