Subject: Re: [COUPERS-TECH] Control Wheels

Hi Al,

Yeah, my first summer in an Ercoupe convinced me the "pretzel" yokes had to go. I went to the Forney style (no longer available new although maybe from one of the dismantlers).

About half the time people change control wheels, the shafts get butchered. I examined one control wheel shaft example with a outside diameter of 7/8", an inside diameter of 5/8" and an approximate length of 17-1/2". Try calling Univair for dimensions of part no. 415-52055-2 (the drawing number is the same as the part number) for an authoritative answer to your question.

The Forney control wheel shaft was part no. F-52078 which I show varied in production from a length of 19" to 19.431 and apparently later to 19-11/16".

If your shaft universals need replacement, the MS20271-B10 may be an "or equal". Aircraft Spruce has these at $83.25 ea..

Hope this helps,

William R. Bayne

Does anyone know the dimensions of the yoke tubes. Diameter and length
would be great!
Thanks
