I know of folks who have fabricated side windows out of Lexan. I think
the
approval falls into the "don't ask, don't tell" arena. Lexan is
admittidly
easier to work, but has its drawbacks. It is a lot softer than plexiglass
(read
"easy to scratch"). For this reason I don't think it would be suitable
for a
windshield. I know of no Lexan windshield installations, experimental or
certified.

Another thing to consider is that Lexan is not impervious to either Avgas
or
Mogas, so if you spill fuel on your Lexan window, be prepared to replace
it.

Lastly, I would not even consider tinting the windshield, legal issues not

withstanding. If you want to be convinced, fly at night with someone who
has
side tinted windows and take note of the difference looking out of the
untinted
windshield vs. the tinted side windows.
