Verify that the fuel valve from the main tanks to the pump  is open.
You'll find it on the passenger side of the plane, halfway between
floorboard and header tank.
It seems natural that the mechanic closed the valve when working on the
fuel
system.

With a close fuel valve , you'll get no fuel from the main tanks.
