Doug; Welcome to Coupe ownership (I hope real soon). One thing about these little airplanes is that they love to stay fit and trim, makes them fly better. Usually this is best done by taking all the unnecessary crap out of them, including the old radios and associated cabling, and with instruments not needed for the type of flying you'll do with it. Before trying to modify a coupe, why not try one with a good seat in it. Airtex makes a nice one. It'll be lighter and I'll bet dollars to donuts a heck of a lot more comfortable. Now I'll assume you're working with an A&P that has IA. (If not, please just delete my message.) You can tell him that the Alons had buckets if you want to go that way, and he'll know why. Otherwise you'll need a field approval which I'm sure he'll ask for before starting any work. Couldn't be a more simple install if a bit of common sense is applied during the design process. If the conversion adds even 2 pounds to the airframe, I'd consider it a hindrance. There are no STC's for the conversion and I'll bet all the Pope's money there will never be one, regardless of how many folks fly Sportie. Hope this helps.
