----[Please read http://ercoupers.com/disclaimer.htm before following any advice in this forum.]----
List,
I am having some charging system problems here and I just can't figure them
out.
I had the
generator rebuilt , and the regulator tested.. Both were found good,
although I did not stand over the tech to see the results.
But when I installed the generator, I do not get
anything like a full output, and that is with the field grounded.
I thought it was a problem of not getting high
enough revs on the ground. But today I went for my first flight after all my
rebuild work. The plane flies beautifully, and I am particularly proud of how
smooth the ignition is since I re-installed the mags and timed them myself. (I
am running on the Canadian owner maintenance provision so I can do
that).
But my digital voltmeter which I have stuck in the
lighter socket is not going above about 12.1 and not showing any real increase
once the cruise rpm comes up to 2200.
The only thing I have not done yet is to open the
plan up and see if it comes up at higher full power cruise revs.
Before I pull the generator once more ( a pretty
ugly job if you have done it) do you have any advice?
I am going to post this as well in the hopes of
finding someone who has had a similar experience.
It almost makes me want to tear the system out and
convert to the alternator but that is big bux.
Thanks
