Had a C85, from overhaul on, always burned a consistant one qt. every 5 hrs.  Never got better, never got worse.  Was a good strong engine.   My most recent C85, after breakin, was one qt. every 10 - 12 hrs.  I think consumption consistancy indicates a healthy engine more than consumption alone (within reason).

What would be the typical oil consumption range of a C85-12 under these conditions:

 

@ 2200 RPM cruise

 

@ touch and go's - a lot of full power climbing,

 

I am only looking for a range of oil use that might be considered  'normal' for a mid- time

engine.

 

2.

 

I was dismayed to find out the 415E I own does not squeak into the new Sports plane category.

Is there such a thing as a ' variance ' (for lack of a better term)?
