Re: Hartmut's reply to Chris

Chris:  Hartmut's right on the mark so far as my experience is concerned.

I use a Becker radio which fits into an instrument hole directly above my right knee.  Very satisfactory.  Placed at that location, the radio and conncections fit under the header tank and clear  the control column.

I purchased a Garmin 296 (which I can no longer survive without for all the good reasons Hartmut listed and more) and mounted its bracket in a space directly above the left hand control wheel.  The bracket was taken from the yoke mount provided with the 296.  I cut a piece of rubber from one of those rag-like things used to open jar lids, put it under the bracket and screwed the unit to the panel through four pre-drilled holes which matched the holes in the bracket.  It's wonderful--that Garmin comes off the airplane every time I park it.  The unit goes home with me where I use its built in log to keep track of things and where I plan the next expedition.  Man, it's neat flying a 59 year old airplane with digital radio and satellite nav.

Good luck.
