I spent a lot of time doing crash investigation for the Govt and spent a lot of time reviewing reports looking for trends. The hardest thing to do is break down the reports by different models, modifications, etc and work out the percentage. 2 Forney failures in fuel problems might equal a 2% failure rate but 25 Ercoupe failures in fuel problems might equal a 1.5% rate.  A lot of research is required and I think you are on the right track. To do the job correct you need to review the final report with investigators field and teardown report along with any lab reports. Not easy. It once took me two years or research to discover that a failure to properly wash Bell Ranger helicopters parked within 50 miles of an ocean was causing compressor failures in flight.

Hello All,
I have to take the NTSB as all inclusive in the reported accidents.  The
question I have is :  Is there any changes in the fuel system between
the Ercos and the  Forney/Alon  Ecoupes that could account for some
of these unknown engine failures in the Erco Ercoupe, which appear
to be lacking in the Forney/Alon models?
