Hey Joey: The maximum play up and down of the inner shaft is .003. I
realize it is not an easy task, but you should remove the control column and
either put a shim on the inner shaft, (Univair sells shims for that purpose that
pull apart to make different thickness), or replace one or both of the top and
bottom bushings. I have found that replacing a bushing will generally take out
most of the up and down play, but I have occasionally had to install a shim on
top of the top bushing in order to remove the play.
Up and down play as well as fore and aft play will
cause the nose wheel to shimmy.
