Have any of you guys used Marvel Mystery oil? and what were the results?
I have not used it, but I have looked into it. First of all, the
main ingredient is mineral spirits. It dilutes oil and reduces the
lubricity. For this reason I would recommend that you NEVER fly with
MMO in your oil. If you add it to the oil, stick to ground running
at lower power levels. I suspect that the effect on sticky valves
would be minimal since the problem is on the combustion chamber end
and the oil is on the rocker shaft end.
As far as adding it to the fuel, I think the best evaluation I've
seen is "it doesn't appear to do any harm". It does reduce the
octane rating of the fuel, but once it is burned any benefits are
minimal. Prior to being burned it will act as a solvent, but then so
does straight gas.
